Selected artists will receive:
- Ongoing promotion of projects through Rancho Rata social media networks and website
- Ongoing invitations to networking events and other workshops at Rancho Rata and the village's neighboring art residencies and galleries. (Attendance voluntary)
- In addition to direct artist support, another primary goal of Rancho Rata is to make the “invisible” parts of socially engaged art visible. We do this through documentary films, publications, web content, and public programming. However, these content collaborations are not an obligation of the artist and will be based on mutual interest under a separate contract.
Living and workspace
‘Rancho Rata’ is an experimental residency space dedicated to artists looking for a private space to reflect, create, and teach. This artistic retreat is designed for artists who require a thinking space in nature and seeks participants that are seriously thinking about the ecology of care, empathy and community building, and forward-thinking into the future with an affirmative ethical stance.
Artists are invited to live on-site to engage in the process of their artwork with the facilities that Rancho Rata provides while also being surrounded by nature and animals.
Your private room with a work desk is on the first floor, you will find a shared kitchen, bathroom, flexible studio space with worktables and equipment on the ground floor, and a small gallery in the entrance hall. The studio house can house up to 2 artists at a time, does not allow children, but can house artist’s partners for an additional fee. We encourage artists to benefit from the vast meters of rural land surrounding Rancho Rata as an extension of the studio for any outdoor proposals.

The OPEN CALL for 2025 still accepts applications. We are also listed on the Res Artis website.
Please note that the rates for 2025 have been adjusted because of the rising costs inflicted by the crippling energy crisis and soaring inflation caused by the war in Ukraine and Palestine. We are trying hard to keep our prices low and not to charge residents exuberant rates.

Rancho Rata is an international non-profit organization that promotes interdisciplinary discourse and exchange between culturally diverse organizations and individuals working in the arts. Rancho Rata exists because its Board Members and participants are willing to come together to debate and exchange common themes.
There is no remuneration for residents staying at Rancho Rata, nor is the residency free of charge.
